This weekend saw the biggest attended local Triathlon event of the year at Grafham Water, The Grafman.
The weather perked up from the previous days storms to see nearly 1000 athletes compete at this years event, again hosted by the brilliant 'NiceTri Events team'
Just minutes before the event started the BTF officials deemed the water too cold to complete the full 1.9km swim and shortened to 1 lap of the course, for some (Paul Ridley) this was not a bad thing as overnight the storm had washed a bright green algae into the bay where the swim started from. The swim itself from my perspective did not seem that cold and would have been happy to complete the full distance.
The event had a great attendance from our Club with 11 competing in various age groups.
The pick of the Nicetri Club was Kyle Chesterman who completed the race in 4:18:24 finishing 21st overall and 7th in his age category.
We also saw really strong races from Dr.David Irwin with a massive improvement in both his bike and run, the winter training and Tri camps have certainly helped and should pay back dividends when he completes his IronMan later this year. Paul Newell also had a storming bike leg, and finished off with a strong run
We also had 1 mixed team entry, consisting of Lesley Carroll / Club Captain Matt Wright / Lee Radley, The team finished 3rd in their category.
There were unfortunately a couple that did not make it to the finish line, Jeremy Hill with his 1st ever DNF, Jeremy was suffering with a migraine and James Bundy was suffering from overheating and both made the wise decision to pull out! there will be more events and certainly no shame in not finishing.
Once again a great event, made special by the marshals, many of whom are Nicetri club members and some also from the BRJ triathlon club.
